Stony Run Walkable Watershed

Project Overview

Stony Run is a culturally significant natural wetland corridor that spans the eastern side of Dunn, North Carolina. With proper stewardship, the corridor can continue to support a healthy watershed, help manage stormwater runoff from upstream land use, and provide community benefits. With a planning grant from North Carolina Land and Water Fund, our community can focus on a section of Stony Run between US 301 and I-95 to:

  • Increase community understanding on flood reduction and benefits of enhanced ecological function to support future growth.
  • Provide a healthy, trash free stream corridor with native vegetation that can also improve water quality.
  • Support community goals of expanding public access to outdoor spaces and recreational trails.
  • Increase community involvement in planning to reduce flooding issues and improve access

Vision

We can transform a great environmental asset into a community gem by restoring natural systems to be low maintenance, improve water quality and reduce flooding while also providing nice views along a proposed perimeter trail system.
