Wetland Treasures Nominations Form

 Wetland Treasures Selection—Your Input Needed  Every May during American Wetlands Month, the Carolina Wetlands Association recognizes a few sites as Wetland Treasures of the Carolinas. The Program Committee will soon begin the selection process for our 2021 Wetland Treasures, and we’d love to have your input as we create a list of sites for consideration. Do you have a favorite wetland in NC or SC that is in excellent ecological condition and is important for protecting wetland biodiversity in the Carolinas? Selection Criteria

 To be considered as a potential Wetland Treasure, sites must be: 

  • Recognized as important by at least one of the conservation plans listed below
  • An ecologically high quality representative of their wetland type(s)  
  • Important to protecting wetland biodiversity in the Carolinas 
  • A significant ecological service provider 

Conservation Plans

We will base our annual site selections on existing conservation planning efforts that have identified ecologically valuable wetland sites in the Carolinassuch as: 

  • SC Audubon Important Bird Areas  
  • SC Birding Sites 
  • SCDNR Managed Wetlands  
  • Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance
